Mentoring, coaching, or strategic advice?

Since launching Bartoli Legal Consulting, I’ve received many questions from the legal community about what I actually do during our sessions.

Is it mentoring? Is it coaching? Is it strategic advice? Or all of the above?

And what do my clients hope to achieve from our work together?

With these questions in mind, let me clarify how I approach this process — step by step:

1. Understanding the Goals:

We start by exploring what’s moving forward, or what clients want to, in their career — a new role, a promotion, new challenges, or navigating complex dynamics in their organization.

Often, their needs relate to optimizing the organization and leveraging resources, making space for growth.

2. Identifying the Focus Areas:

Next, we work together to discover the key focus areas which are likely to have a direct impact on achieving the priority goals, so we know where to spend our time and energy. These can include:

  • Developing strategic skills

  • Improving management style

  • Enhancing client management

  • Building influence and impact

  • Creating efficiency

  • Defining core values for the team

  • Strengthening presence with stakeholders

  • Building resilience

3. Diving Deeper into Skills and Strategies:

Once we have our focus areas identified, we then drill down into how we will move the dial on those things, for instance:

  • Creating and ‘selling’ a legal strategic plan

  • Becoming a great leader and people manager

  • Inspiring teams

  • Demonstrating value

  • Modernizing the legal department

  • Optimizing legal spend

4. Learning from Real World Examples:

Together, we analyze actual issues and develop tailored solutions, often using materials and frameworks I prepare between sessions.

5. Tracking Progress:

As we are on this journey together, it’s important that we have regular check-in sessions to ensure continuous growth and tangible results.

Throughout our sessions, you’ll experience mentoring, strategic guidance, and impactful coaching — plus, plenty of moments of positivity and even some laughs! True transformation happens in real life, outside the session, as you put insights into action.

Are you ready to start a process like this of your own? If you are a general counsel, senior counsel, and outside counsel who is ready to embark on this growth and transformation journey, get in touch with me — I’d love to help you unlock your full potential!
